About artist:Fiber Artist and Photographer
About art:The majority of my work is guided by the interplay of color and texture, along with touches from 1950’s Fantasy, Sci-fi movies, cartoons and African textiles. In fact, I am happily obsessed with them and enjoy wandering around their relationship with our imaginations and reality.

I draw on childhood memories of finger-painting, crayons, chalk side-walk paintings and coloring outside the lines when I begin to work. I take delight in combining the outrageous colors and fun of Pop-Art and Bugs Bunny cartoons, the dream-like, fantasy, qualities of Surrealism and the beautiful tones and textures of Impressionism in composing my art.

My work starts with a color or series of colors and then progresses to the texture of a place or a story, real or imaginary. My technique for the actual fiber painting involves building up of many layers on a canvas. The various fabrics, fibers and paints I use are fused, glued and mixed with hand and machine stitching and hand beading to create shapes that suggest a person, place, thing or whatever you wish to imagine.
