| | About artist: | My name is Linda Marion Westlund. I paint under the name "RAINBOW". I was born in Sweden. I grew up on a small farm in the mid western state of Illinois. Since my childhood, my passion has been drawing and painting. As a young girl my parents took me to the Art Institute of Chicago many times, where I had the opportunity to view many of the great masters. My love of fine art grew. After finishing high school, I attended The Art Institute of Chicago for two years and the American Academy of Art for one year. I then attended Lea College in Albert Lea, Minnesota, Where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, with a minor in education. I worked a number of years as a commercial artists. Among my employers was Walt Disney's Graphic Labs. I taught in the public schools during the summer and gave private lessons for three years. I have been painting "The Circles" for twenty eight years. My husband James has been my greatest supported. He stretches my canvas and helped with this Web site. I have two children with James, Cody 28 and Lacey 26. They help with everything around the house including its construction, so I can paint full time. These paintings are guide by a voice or spirit guide of some kind. I don't actually hear a voice except in my mind. The voice guides me in the direction the message of each painting is to bring. Linda Marion Westlund, "Rainbow", has just recently been added to the rolls of "The National Registry Of Executives and Professionals", "Who's Who", as an American Woman Artist. | | About art: | Twenty eight years ago I started painting "TheCircles". To me each painting represents a cycle in time, a cycle of universal events, a cycle of natural evolution and a cycle of ones perception. The focus of each painting is different but collectively they all are one painting. They are windows from which one may take a step back and see patterns of life in it's entirety. I see each painting in my minds' eye before I paint it. The title always comes to me first. Each composition is a research and learning process for me, as the painting nears completion. It grows out of images perceived from the title and how that relates to "The Circles" concept. The rainbow palette of color I select is similar in all of "The Circles" paintings, for two reasons. Visually, it provides a continuity to the works. Ascetically, a rainbow elicits feelings of joy and hope in many people. These are qualities I strive most to convey in "The Circles"paintings. | |
