|Location:||Phelan, California, United States|
|About artist:|| Hi, I’m Ron Kendall, a self taught artist (started the process jr. high school) and that’s my picture on this page.|
After getting out of the army in 1968, I started to seriously put pen and paint to paper.
In the last 45 years I have managed to assemble this catalog of 450 outrageously beautiful and varied pieces of art. And I am still adding to it.
I am now retired and live in Phelan, California. However, I spent 36 years in the mountains of Trinity County California in a place called Hayfork. I relocated there from Riverside, Ca in 1973. There I worked, fished, prospected for gold and developed my artistic style. Oh yea, I am an accomplished musician to boot. During those years many of my works won 1st place awards in local county fairs and exhibitions.
My art has evolved over the years to include a wide variety of styles and methods. In the 1970’s, I created all the massive, colorful and highly detailed trees (Autumn-Faces-
Full Moon-Green Grass, etc.). These were all created using brush applied watercolors, pencil and fine tip black ink pen. Some of them have a special treatment on the paper that brings the tree up in relief. The detail in these will draw you in and keep you finding more. All of these trees were visions from within.
In the 1980's I started to work with an airbrush, fine ink pen and felt marker. This method brought about the bright, colorful and wild images (Flaming Bush-Horse-Ginger Jar-Gears-Eating Crow, etc.). These were visions from within also.
Through the 1990's I started using colored pencil with other methods I have developed. That's when I created Scarecrow-Skull-Snake, etc. The 90's did not produce much art because I was spending most of my free time prospecting for GOLD. I found quite a bit.
For the last several years, my inspirations have come from photos I take as I travel around. This new method takes certain aspects of three or four different photos and uses them to create an image that is unrelated to individual images. For some of these I use color pencil etched into a clear medium sprayed on the paper (Raven-Blossom) and color pencil and black ink (Rosebuds-Pink Flowers-Dandelions, etc.)
Most recently I took first place at the 2011 Los Angeles County Fair with my painting “Open Gate”. This was a considerable accomplishment because I created this piece 31 years prior with the idea of entering it at that time but circumstances did not let it happen. My winning that contest must have been meant to be. This year, 2013, I was chosen by the board of curators of the World Wide Art Books for publication in the “International Contemporary Masters” Volume VIII.
I know one thing for sure. With the variety in the art I am presenting here, you will never get bored looking at it.
