Let me introduce you to Ron Kendall, the artist (that’s his picture on this page).
After getting out of the army in 1968, he started to seriously put pen and paint to paper.
In the last 45 years, he has managed to assemble this catalog of 400+ outrageously beautiful and varied pieces of art. And he is still adding to it.
He is now retired and lives in Phelan, California. However, he spent 36 years in the mountains of Tritny County, California in a place called Hayfork. There he worked, fished, prospected for gold and developed his artistic style. Oh yea, he is an accomplished musician to boot.
His art has evolved over the years to include a wide variety of styles and methods. In the 1970’s, he created all the massive, colorful and highly detailed trees (Autumn-Faces-
Full Moon-Green Grass, etc.). These were all created using brush applied watercolors, pencil and fine tip black ink pen. Some of them have a special treatment on the paper that brings the tree up in relief. The detail in these will draw you in and keep you finding more. All of these trees were visions from within.
In the 1980's Ron started to work with an airbrush, fine ink pen and felt marker. This method brought about the bright, colorful and wild images (Flaming Bush-Horse-Ginger Jar-Gears-Eating Crow, etc.). These were visions from within.
Through the 1990's he started using colored pencil with the other methods he had developed. That's when he created Scarecrow-Skull-Snake, etc. The 90's did not produce much art because Ron was spending most of his free time prospecting for GOLD. He found quite a bit.
For the last several years, his inspirations have come from photos he takes as he travels around. This new method takes certain aspects of three or four different photos and uses them to create an image that is unrelated to individual images. For some these he uses color pencil etched into a clear medium sprayed on the paper (Raven-Blossom) and color pencil and black ink (Rosebuds-Pink Flowers-Dandelions, etc.)
Over the last 2-3 years he has moved into a completely inspired mode. In that he now uses many different mediums in the creation of his paintings and many varied styles and methods of applying those mediums. He now uses 1 or 2 standard elements of nature and combines them with some pretty wild backgrounds and enhancements.
I know one thing for sure. With the variety in Ron's art, you will never get bored looking at it.
If you take a look at the site directory to the left you will notice there are 4 different galleries listed. The first 2 are self explanatory. They contain Rons' art created during those time periods. "The Forgotten Art" gallery contains 34 pieces of art he had stored away many years ago and forgot about them. We found them 3 years ago when he was unpacking after moving. "The Black Art" gallery got its' name because it contains works done on black paper (all of these have been done in the last 4 years).
So Please browse through all 4 galleries. I'm sure you'll find something you like.
