| | About artist: | Sopena was born in Riaza,Segovia,Spain. His love of was art was apparant at an early age when all his afforts were artistic. In 1964 he studied in Madrid at the School of Fine Art of San Fernando.At the beginning of 1965 he arrived to Paris,were he studiet with french painter Rene Chalon for towyears;Rene taught him the most importan methods such as mixing colors to produce the most desirable effect. In 1967 Luis went to Amsterdam,Holland where he studiet the technique of the Duch master.
This techniques are in his early paintings,using dark brown colors of Rembrandt.
Mr.Sopena presented exhibitions in severals groups galleries and associations,in 1968 Luis moved to England where hi studied the English landscape inspired by Constable and Turner.
Back to Paris he studied restoration of art and antiques for several months,painting stage murals for theater and buisdins,thus becaming a muralist.
In the late 1968 he arrived to Montreal,Canada where hi aligned himself withgroups of Montreal artist and studied at the Montreal School of Fine Art ,Avalon School of Design and Doon School of Fine Art in Toronto.
In June 1971 he moved to Victoria BC.where he was an art teacher for Camesun Collage, in 1973 Sopena decided to move to Vancouver where he bought his gallery and bicame a Canadian Citizen.
With his gallery,luis has made his art well known,having had exhibitions in diferent galleries in Canada,USA and Europe.
In Vancouver Luis studiet sculpture,etching and lithography at the Malaspina Print Maker Society,the Emely Carr School of Art and the Banff School of Art.
Early in his career,Luis was influenced by artist like Dali and Picasso.
Mr Sopena created his own art stile using his own athnic backgrounds and europen influence, creating art work which are unique for art collectors. | | About art: | When I look at a white canvas, my mind open into anew dimension.

We are climbing a mountain and we go throuth a stage in time,and we will know only when we are in the other side.
I seek to balance material with spiritualism by bringing the elegance of classic art into place to achieve color,space,light and shape into my painting.
